club research

This part of our web site is designed to help families who are new to club soccer, or are just starting to think about club soccer. You can also find links to all kinds of club related web sites.

Feel free to contact us, if you do have more specific questions about the transition from AYSO or other community soccer organizations to club soccer here in Southern California. We can set up a personal consultation with one of our staff members to start working on a plan to get your child into organized soccer.

To get things going we have a Q&A section on the bottom of this page that might already answer some of your questions right here. ENJOY!!!

Coach Martin

Q: How much of a time commitment is club soccer?

A: Most club soccer teams practice and play year around. 2 practices of about 1 1/2 to 2 hours a week are most common.

Q: What is the financial commitment of club soccer?

A: Most clubs range from about $1,300 to $2,000. This usually includes 3-4 tournaments (incl. State and League tournaments). It should also include coaching for the whole season, full uniform, and the club's administrative fees. Make sure to find out exactly what is included in your fees.

Q: What is a good age to transition into club soccer?

A: Nowadays, clubs start teams as young as the age of 7 to 8 years. If this is for you, depends a little bit on the kid itself. Some kids are mature enough and excited enough to handle it, while others are not ready for this kind of commitment. Most clubs offer "free clinics" during the year, which usually can be attended without any pressure of actually try-outs (and usually at no cost) . Check club web sites for details on this information.

Q: Are there any web sites I can use to get my research started?

A: Yes. Usually, every league and club has their own web site and so does whatever entity is governing the league. The biggest league in this area is the Coast Soccer League (www.coastsoccer.com). If you live closer to San Diego it would be the Presidio League (www.presidiosoccer.com). The governing body for Southern California is CYSA-South (www.calsouth.com). However, to find a club in your league go to the appropriate league web site first.
